Tuition & Assistance
We are a Community That Invests in Each Other
At Abington Friends School, we believe that an exceptional education should be within reach for your family. Through robust need-based tuition assistance and flexible payment plan options, we’re committed to helping families invest in an AFS education with confidence and peace of mind.
AFS provides more than $8 million annually in tuition assistance grants and scholarships to families representing a wide range of incomes, with awards ranging from several hundred to several thousand dollars. As a result, more than 50% of the student body is awarded some level of tuition assistance.

Financial Aid Timeline
Tuition assistance applications must be completed online and submitted to Clarity by December 21, 2025. Awards will be released with Enrollment Contracts beginning on January 30, 2026. To accept a tuition assistance award, families must return the signed enrollment contract and deposit by March 2, 2026 or within two weeks of an admission decision - whichever is later.
The Tuition Assistance Process
Tuition assistance at AFS is based on demonstrated need determined by Clarity Financials’ objective standards.
The AFS Tuition Assistance Committee uses the Clarity application to determine grant amounts.
We are committed to maintaining your level of support each year, as long as you remain enrolled and continue to meet eligibility requirements.

For Returning Families
Applications must be submitted annually by the renewal deadline, with continued demonstration of financial need.
For New Families
Submit your tuition assistance application alongside your admission application. Please note that financial aid files are only reviewed after a student has been offered admission.
Merit Scholarships
In addition to tuition assistance, we are proud to be able to offer academically talented and motivated applicants an opportunity to attend AFS through the Honors Scholarship Program, a competitive merit scholarship program for students entering grades 5 through 11.
This program has a separate selection process, and acceptance of an Honors Scholarship does not eliminate a family from consideration for need-based tuition assistance.
Additional Funding Options
Many families aren’t sure if their personal budget can incorporate independent school tuition rates, so we are committed to helping you discover practical and manageable ways to pay for a distinctive education in which your child will flourish. There are many resources available to guide you when considering the cost of the AFS experience.
The National Association for Independent Schools is a reliable and helpful resource when researching how to manage the costs of an independent school. As a member of NAIS, we look to the Association for leadership in easing the Independent School application and tuition process.
