Upper School Academics

Beyond Ordinary
We prepare minds that matter through partnership and purpose. Learning is active, social and deeply rooted in relationships. As you walk the halls, you’ll find classrooms alive with curiosity, spaces where students don’t just receive knowledge, but help shape it.
Upper School is where your Light shines brightly.

What If Learning Went Further?
That’s the question driving AFS Upper School every day. Our collaborative approach makes learning dynamic, meaningful and built around purpose.
Strength in Numbers
Teachers don’t just deliver lessons—they team up with students to explore bold “what if” questions that push past the ordinary.
Our Quaker Way
Quaker principles aren’t just tradition—they’re a strength you can feel. They create a culture of reflection, balance and care that supports wellness and fuels academic success.
A No-Walls Mentality
Learning here isn’t boxed into silos. It’s interdisciplinary, experiential and driven by what excites students most.
Meet Brendon Jobs, Director of the Upper School
Welcome to the Upper School at Abington Friends School!
Here, learning is a shared experience. Our students and teachers work together every day to create something that goes far beyond textbooks or tests; something that’s alive, thoughtful, and deeply connected to the world around us. At AFS, we believe that education should help students find purpose and direction, not just prepare them for the next step.
Our classrooms are places where students ask bold questions, wrestle with ideas, and develop their own voices. Guided by Quaker values, we encourage reflection, curiosity, and the kind of thinking that leads to both insight and action.
Learning at AFS doesn’t stop when class ends. Whether it’s through student-led clubs, performances, service projects, or quiet conversations in community spaces, our students continue to explore, create, and grow. And because our approach is collaborative and student-centered, they’re constantly encouraged to take ownership of their ideas and interests.
By the time they graduate, our students have more than just strong academic foundations—they have the confidence, compassion, and clarity to lead meaningful lives. They leave AFS ready not just to succeed, but to contribute.
What Makes Our Classrooms Different?
One of the most distinctive parts of our program is something we call collaborative inquiry. Simply put, it’s the practice of learning together—students and teachers diving into questions, sharing perspectives, and building understanding as a group.
It’s not just about working in teams. It’s about creating a space where every voice matters and where learning is richer because it’s shared. In these moments, students don’t just absorb information—they help shape it. They learn to listen closely, think critically, and stay open to new ideas.
This is what makes learning at AFS so special. It’s thoughtful. It’s connected. And it’s rooted in the belief that we’re better thinkers—and better people—when we grow together.
Warmly,
Brendon
