International Student Program
The International Student Program at Abington Friends School offers students a chance to explore their individual interests, experience American life, and develop a deeper understanding for the cultural complexities of studying in a diverse educational setting. The International Student Program welcomes a selective cohort of 10 to 12 students annually, who join us for the majority of their high school years. Our international students participate fully in the academic, athletic, social, and spiritual life of the school.
All international students are enrolled in the school’s rigorous curriculum along with our non-international students and are expected to build their English language competency by immersing themselves in our academic program. Our international students are also encouraged to participate in student clubs, athletics, the arts, and other experiential learning opportunities. International students, like all students at AFS, are encouraged to make use of the resources offered by the school including the Wilf Learning Center, our Faulkner Library, and pre-professional learning programs in business and medicine.
The International Student Program is overseen by a team, including our Dean of Students, Tina Yen. Tina works with our school community to build an inclusive culture that encourages international students in all aspects of their academic, social, spiritual and personal growth. Fluent in Mandarin, the Dean of Students can be a contact for families to make sure that students are well cared for.
On weekends, students can take advantage of all that the 5th largest city in the United States, Philadelphia has to offer – world class educational institutions and resources, diverse neighborhoods rich with history, and excellent cultural activities ranging from restaurants to concerts, museums to sports.
AFS also supports our international students in applying for summer academic programs for high school students offered by prestigious universities.
