Admission

Group of students walking through the hallway at AFS

At AFS, learning begins with relationships, because who you are matters here.

We take the time to truly understand your child. Not just their grades or interests, but who they are, what excites them and the kind of community where they’ll thrive.

Choosing a school is more than an application—it’s about finding a place where your child can be seen, known and inspired to grow. That’s why we approach the admission process with empathy, honesty and care. No scripts. No pressure. Just real conversations, thoughtful guidance and a shared goal: helping your family find the right fit. This is a human journey—and we’re honored to walk it with you.

From our very first conversation with Mary Kay, we felt seen - not just as applicants, but as a family. She wasn't trying to ‘sell’ us the school; she was genuinely interested in who our child is, what matters to our family and how we might grow together.  That told us everything we needed to know about AFS.

What sets AFS students apart?

They ask and wonder.

They ask questions, explore deeply, and seek to understand how and why things truly matter.

They become their best.

They feel seen and heard, gaining confidence that shapes how they learn, express, connect, and grow.

They care about people.

They ask questions, dig deep, stay curious, and genuinely want to understand how the world works—and why it matters.

They go for it.

AFS students take chances on their ideas, on projects and on themselves. They speak up, try new things and learn by doing.

They’re creative thinkers.

Art, music, performance, building, writing, experimenting—AFS students are always exploring new ways to express ideas and solve problems.

They build real connections.

They know their teachers. Their teachers know them. And those relationships makes all the difference—in the classroom and beyond.

They are reflective.

They think about what they’ve learned, how they’ve changed, and why growth is about more than just achievement.

They make a difference.

Whether they’re five or fifteen, AFS students believe their ideas and actions matter. And they learn how to use them well.

Abington Friends School is a member of the Philadelphia Region Independent School Enrollment Consortium (PRISEC)

As part of our shared commitment to a fair and transparent admission process for families exploring independent schools across the Greater Philadelphia region, schools have agreed upon the following common admission process dates:

Earliest Application Deadline: December 1

Earliest Notification Date: January 10

Earliest Commitment Deadline: February 15

If you are asked to reply to an offer of enrollment or scholarship that does not align with these “no earlier than” process dates, or a personal family circumstance requires an exception to the above, here are the next steps:

1) Call the school that is asking you to reply earlier than the agreed upon dates above and ask for an extension on your reply to their offer.

2) If no extension is granted, call the other school(s) to which you have applied and ask for an exception and expedited review and/or decision.
