Abington Friends School Athletics Department is pleased to announce Tiffany Davis as the School’s next Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach, effectively immediately.
Most recently an assistant coach with Community College of Philadelphia’s Women’s Basketball program, Davis brings a wealth of experience to the AFS sidelines, including a playing career at NCAA Women’s Basketball powerhouse University of South Carolina, where she graduated in 2017 with a dual degree in psychology and retail management.
AFS Director of Athletics Jeff Bond says, “We are thrilled to welcome Tiffany to the AFS community. From the moment that she stepped on campus during the interview process, Tiffany impressed all of the stakeholders with whom she met with her authenticity, her passion for mentoring young female basketball players and her vision for an exciting future for AFS Girls Basketball. Tiffany’s own playing career, including its challenges, a nd the time she spent learning from Dawn Staley at South Carolina have prepared her well to lead the Roos.”
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Davis will join the AFS community as a Physical Education Assistant Teacher and Athletics Department Associate.
Says Davis, “I’m incredibly honored and excited to be named the head coach of the Girls’ Basketball program at Abington Friends. This opportunity means so much to me, not just because of my love for the game, but because I believe in building young women into confident, disciplined leaders on and off the court. As a captain of a National Championship team, I know what it takes to create a winning culture. My goal is to bring that same championship mindset to the AFS Kangaroos. I’m looking forward to building a program rooted in hard work, energy, and accountability and helping our athletes grow not only as players but as strong, driven individuals. I can’t wait to get started.”
Rated in the top 30 point guards in the country during her high school career in Houston, TX, Davis received a full scholarship to the University of South Carolina where she played four years. Sidelined during her freshman and junior seasons by season-ending knee injuries, Davis’s grit, perseverance and positive attitude were lauded and recognized by her Gamecock teammates who named her a team captain for their 2016-17 National Championship season.
Notes Davis’s coach at South Carolina, Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Dawn Staley, “Coaching is in Tiffany’s blood just as much as playing. Her basketball experience will allow her to impact not just her players but their parents and the entire community. Abington Friends School got a good one in Tiffany Davis!”
Davis takes over an AFS program with a long history of success. Since the founding of the Friends Schools League in 1982, AFS Varsity Girls Basketball has appeared in the League championship game 13 times, winning six FSL titles, along with one Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association state championship in 2020.
