Overview

In the Early Childhood Division and Lower School, creative play and storytelling infuse drama into the classroom as a matter of course. The Lower School music program focuses on movement education and during the school year we share two performances with the AFS community.

In Middle School the theatre program offers a skills-based curriculum that focuses on developing and enhancing a student’s ability to communicate effectively. The emphasis is placed squarely on teamwork and group process. Each spring, students can participate in the Middle School Musical, a much-loved tradition at Abington Friends. The musical is fully produced with beautifully designed costumes, sets and lighting and is accompanied by our acclaimed student orchestra.

In Upper School, students can explore two different courses of study within the discipline of theatre: Acting and Technical Theatre/Design. Students are also encouraged to experience theatre through the Mainstage Season, with two major productions a year, or through student-driven Independent Projects. Each year, in the spring, the advanced performance students present their work on two separate evenings through the Actors’ Showcase and our annual Cabaret.
