A Message from Andrea Emmons, Director of  Lower School

Welcome to the Abington Friends Preschool Program

Our preschool classes are centered on the principle that students should be at the heart of the learning experience.  At AFS, young people thrive through teaching methods that balance a thoughtful nurturing of students’ interests with a passion for joyful learning that develops new academic skills.

Learning by Doing

Through extensive outdoor play and exploration, preschool students learn how to navigate shared spaces and enhance their ability to connect and communicate with each other. Opportunities to interact while playing and working throughout the day help students develop empathy and understanding. Students work collaboratively on small group and whole-class projects in addition to working one-on-one with a teacher to practice early learning skills that are important for future academic growth. Early literacy and mathematical learning experiences are skillfully woven throughout the fabric of the day in our preschool classrooms.

Passionate Educators

When walking into our preschool classrooms, the joy of the students in their work and play is readily evident. Our teachers are incredibly dedicated and passionate about helping every child feel known and cared for in the classroom. The relationships among our students, teachers and families are the foundation of an incredibly strong and vibrant learning community.

Visit Us

We hope you will come visit us! Our preschool program is truly like no other.

Warmly,
Andrea

We sculpt academic activities to be play-like so students develop a joyful relationship with learning. When something feels challenging we can can reinforce that and model the joy of discovery when they learn a new skill.
