International Student Program
The international student program at AFS welcomes roughly 30 students, most of whom join us for the majority of their high school years. Our international students participate fully in academic classes and the athletic, social, spiritual and extra-curricular activities which support all of our students.
In addition, international students participate in specially designed programming, including an extensive orientation which includes placement tests, meeting key adults in the community, exchanging information with American students about different customs and interests and learning about academic expectations at AFS.
Our international students are enrolled in the rigorous curriculum with our non-international students and are expected to build their English language competency by immersing themselves in our program. English Language Learning (ELL) services are offered through the Wilf Learning Resource Center. During a one semester class, School Culture at AFS, all new international students further explore the topics from the orientation.
All international students have individual meetings with our International Student Support teachers who provide English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Graduate Students
from Arcadia University occasionally participate in International Student programming, observe in content area classrooms, and provide enrichment tutoring to new international students.
Regular lunch meetings for international students provide opportunities to get extra guidance for all aspects of school including the college process.
