Mary Dare '67

Mary Lotz Dare of Horsham, PA passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on Thursday, February 2, 2023, with her beloved husband and daughter by her side. Mary was known for her jolly demeanor, her practical jokes and her extensive contributions and service to Horsham Township, as well as the deep love she held for her family.

Mary was born on September 28, 1949 to the late Jack and Evelyn Lotz. She was a 1967 graduate of Abington Friends School, after which she attended Lynchburg College in Virginia, where she met and married her husband, Craig, on August 16th, 1969. After graduating in 1972 with her BA in English and MA in teaching, Mary worked as a reading specialist in the Lynchburg public school system.

Mary is survived by her husband, Craig Dare; her children: Michael Dare (Kiera), Chrissy Derbyshire (Ron); her grandchildren Hayley, Brennan, Olivia, Millie, Alex and Henry; her sister Joan Subotnick (Mort) and by her beloved dog, Leo.

Deborah (Stetser) Burpee '75

Deborah (Stetser) Burpee, aged 66, of Conshohocken, PA, formerly Abington, PA, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, March 19, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Deb was born September 20, 1956, in Tampa, FL. She was the daughter of the late Virginia (Masland) Stetser, author, and the late Dana Stetser, architect. Deb was married for 35 years to the late W. Atlee Burpee IV, a seedsman and great grandson of the founder of the vegetable and flower seed company.

Deb and Atlee met as kindergarteners in 1962 at Abington Friends School and were lifelong best friends. Debby graduated from Davis and Elkins College (1979) in Education, specializing in physical education and health for elementary and secondary students. She received her Master’s degree (2006) in Education from Walden University (MN) with a focus on curriculum development and assessment.

Jonathan Rubin '79

Kim Ann Strain Daniels '94

Kim Ann Strain Daniels, DNP, of Villanova, PA, passed away Friday January 27, 2023.

She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Maisie (7 y.o.), and Jasmine Daniels (12 y.o.), and her husband Shaun Daniels. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on June 3, 1976 as the beloved daughter of Brigitte A. Strain, sister of John Earle Strain IV and the late John Earle Strain, III. In addition to her family; Kim is survived by many close friends and colleagues whose lives she so graciously impacted.

Kim graduated from Abington Friends School in 1994. Aside from her professional accomplishments, Kim was a beautiful spirit inside and out. She was incredibly kind, intelligent, tenacious, strong, and compassionate. She was the most loving mother and true friend to so many people. Her love for animals showed in every rescue she and her daughters adopted. She and her daughters donated time every summer to Camp Freedom run by the ADA and CHOP for children suffering from Type 1 diabetes.
