This week has seen a number of postseason successes for the Roos as Varsity Softball, Varsity Baseball and Varsity Track & Field all produced positive results on the fields and track. Read on for more details.

Varsity Softball entered the Friends Schools League postseason as the #4 seed in the FSL Championship bracket, marking the Roos’ second consecutive appearance in the tourney after a decade long hiatus. On Tuesday, AFS dispatched the #5 seed Academy of the New Church 18-3 to advance to this afternoon’s semifinal tilt at Shipley at 4pm. Lorelai Stirling ‘28 stymied the Lions’ bats all afternoon, striking out 9 batters and allowing just 1 hit while knocking 3 hits of her own at the plate. Elise Graber '26, Gen Mueller '28, Mercury Young '29 and Calysta Salas '27 all recorded 2 hits apiece with Calysta driving in 6 baserunners and Elise 3. The Roos improved to 11-5 on the year with the victory.

Varsity Track & Field traveled to GFS’s Playing Fields on Wednesday to participate in the 2026 Friends Schools League Track & Field Championship Meet and emerged with a host of top-three medals and season, lifetime and school best marks. Lucy Byrd '28 was the day’s big winner, claiming 4 gold medals for 1st place finishes in the 200 meters, 300 meter hurdles and as part of the Roos’ 4x100 meters and 4x400 meters relay squads. Lucy was joined on the 4x100m squad by Jada Downs '29, Imani Heath-Cooper '27 and Addison Avant '28. Lucy, Jada, Yassmine Wardigee '27 and Auria Brady '30 formed the Roos’ 1st place 4x400m team. Eliot Bramson '27 claimed another AFS gold medal with his 1st place javelin toss. Addison Avant placed 2nd in the 200 meters while AFS’s Boys’ 4x400m quartet of Jona Malik '28, Roger Chen '28, Blake Bates '30 and Pharaoh Lewis '27 snagged a bronze medal. Finally, Neiko Savior '27 and Asa White '29 placed 3rd in their respective Junior Varsity 100 meter dashes. Next weekend selected AFS qualifiers will advance to the PAISAA Independent Schools State Championship Meet. 

Varsity Baseball narrowly missed out on a Friends Schools League Championship Playoff berth when they fell 4-3 to Academy of the New Church last week. Instead, the Roos entered the Friends Schools League Quaker Cup tournament as the top seed and faced Barrack Academy on Tuesday. A trio of AFS pitchers kept the Cougars off balance all afternoon in an 11-0 win. Loren Koenig '27, Max Cassano '29 and Wyatt Hendricks ‘28 allowed just 1 hit and 2 walks, while striking out 4 batters. Sam Calandra-Jayne '26, Will Hale '26 and Brennan Porreca '29 each had a pair of hits on the afternoon with Sam driving in 4 runners and Will driving 2. This afternoon the Roos face Friends Select in the Quaker Cup finals in a 4 p.m. home game.
