Once again, members of AFS Varsity & Middle School Track teams participated in the Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. AFS sent 4x100m and 4x400m relay squads to the 130th annual running of this world famous event..
On Thursday, the Varsity Girls team of Imani Heath-Cooper ‘27, Jada Downs '29, Addison Avant '28 and Lucy Byrd '28 took to the track, placing 3rd out of 9 in their heat in the 4x100m in a time of 51.80. Later that afternoon, Jada, Lucy, Yassmine Wardigee '27 and Faye Siatkowski '29 placed 8th of 14 in their 4x400m heat with a time of 4:24.90.
On Friday morning, AFS Middle School Girls squad of Olivia I. '30, Azaleyah W. '30, Gia S. '31, and Auria B. '30 earned a bronze medal for their 3rd place finish in the Philadelphia Area Private and Charter Schools competition with a time of 51.74 in the 4x100. The Middle School Boys team of A.J. H. '30, Solomon B. '30, Blake B. '30, and Aiden W. '30 finished 6th in their version of the same competition with a time of 49.88.

Rounding out Friday’s participation for the Roos was the Varsity Boys 4x100m squad of Gabe Anderson '29, Jona Malik '28, Pharoah Lewis '27 and Gio D’Amico '27 who narrowly missed setting a new school record in the 4x100m as their 44.34 was a half second off the mark and placed them 6th in their heat.
Tomorrow, Jona, Pharoah, Gio and Roger Chen '28 take to the track for AFS in a 12-team High School Boys' 4x400 Philly Academic race.
