AFS and Earlham Announce New Direct Admission Pathway

Abington Friends School graduates now have a new pathway to college through a direct admissions partnership with Earlham College, expanding opportunities for students to continue their education within the broader Friends school community.

Through the new partnership, AFS students who meet established academic criteria will be eligible for direct admission to Earlham, a nationally recognized liberal arts college in Richmond, Indiana. Eligible students will also have access to significant merit scholarship opportunities and personalized admissions advising to support them and their families throughout the college search and enrollment process.

AFS is one of eight Friends schools across the country participating in Earlham’s growing direct admissions network. The initiative reflects longstanding connections among schools shaped by a shared tradition of Quaker education and creates a more direct bridge between students educated in Friends schools and an Earlham education.

"At AFS, our college counseling process is rooted in helping each student discover the places where they can continue to excel, contribute and pursue what matters to them,” said Joanna Upmeyer, Director of College Counseling. “This partnership gives our students another meaningful option while also demonstrating the strength of the connections that exist across Friends education.”

Students considering Earlham through the direct admissions pathway are eligible for awards ranging from $5,000 to full tuition, housing and meals and renewable for up to four years. The College also offers its Quaker Fellows program, which provides a $2,500 annual renewable scholarship and enhanced financial aid to students interested in exploring Quaker values through community, spirituality and leadership. Students do not need to identify as Quaker to participate in Quaker Fellows.

For AFS students, the partnership represents both a practical new opportunity in the college process and another way the relationships at the heart of Friends education can extend beyond graduation.
