Abington Friends School Names Zaccai Williams as Next Lower School Director

Abington Friends School is pleased to announce that Zaccai Williams will join the school as its next Lower School Director beginning July 1, 2026.

Zaccai currently serves as Assistant Head of Lower School at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, where he partners closely with faculty to support instructional excellence, mentor teachers, and foster an inclusive and joyful learning environment for students.

Throughout his career, Zaccai has focused on building dynamic learning environments that support both academic growth and social-emotional development. His work has included curriculum leadership, faculty mentorship, and the integration of restorative practices and belonging-centered initiatives within the Lower School.

Prior to his leadership role at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, Zaccai taught at the McDonogh School and the Gilman School and began his career as an elementary teacher with KIPP Baltimore.

He holds a Master of Education from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Human Services from Elon University.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Abington Friends School community and the vibrant Lower School,” wrote Zaccai upon his appointment. “What excites me most about this work is the balance between wonder and intention: creating spaces where children’s curiosity, creativity, and sense of belonging can flourish. The early years should feel joyful, imaginative, and deeply human, and I’m excited to partner with AFS faculty and families to nurture a learning environment where each child’s unique gifts can unfold.”

“Zaccai brings a deep commitment to student-centered learning and a collaborative approach to leadership that resonated strongly throughout the search process,” said Nicole Hood, Head of School. “We are excited to welcome him to the AFS community.”

The school also expressed gratitude to Andrea Emmons, who has served as Lower School Director with dedication and care for many years and whose leadership has helped shape the Lower School community.

Zaccai will begin his role on July 1, 2026.
