Transportation

There are many ways to get here!
Getting your student to AFS is our priority. Our students come to AFS from more than 70 zip codes and neighborhoods around the greater Philadelphia area every day.
Public Transportation
In Philadelphia, students in grades 9-12 receive a free SEPTA Key Card that they can use through high school. The SEPTA Student Fare Card is a reusable chipped card which allows students to board a SEPTA trolley, Regional Rail, bus or subway.
AFS is conveniently located near the Jenkintown Train Station and the bus routes 55 and 77, both of which stop within one block of AFS. Route 55 is linked by the Olney Transportation Center.
The Jenkintown Train Station is serviced by multiple SEPTA Regional Rail lines and AFS provides a complimentary shuttle bus to and from it. This shuttle normally has an a.m. pick up time of 7:35 a.m. In the afternoon, the bus departs AFS at 3:25 p.m. for a 3:30 p.m. arrival at the station. There is also a late afternoon shuttle at 5:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
District School Bus
If you live within ten miles of AFS, then you are eligible for busing provided by the district in which you live. There is no charge for school district busing. Annually, each family will complete an online re-enrollment information form where they can designate their chosen method of transportation
The School District of Philadelphia will also provide bus transportation to students in grades 1-8 to and from AFS. Parents also have the option to enroll in the District’s Parent Flat Rate Program. Through this program parents can be reimbursed for up to $300.00 per month related to the cost of transporting students to school, such as gas or alternative modes of transportation.
Students who stay late at school for sports practice, theater rehearsal or other activities travel home by car, the AFS shuttle bus or the AFS Northwester Bus. The shuttle bus goes to the Jenkintown SEPTA regional rail station. Late service is available Monday-Thursday.
