Abington Friends Meeting House in the fall

History & Mission of AFS

Founded in 1697 and guided by the mission of providing a "useful education with a moral grounding."

Our Mission

Our mission at Abington Friends School, grounded in Quaker principles and practices, is to cultivate intellectual excellence, foster strength of character, and support the growth of each student’s unique talents, while nurturing the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of the whole child.

Founded in 1697

AFS is in a care relationship with Abington Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.

Oldest School in the State

Abington Friends School is the oldest school in Pennsylvania to have operated continuously on the same parcel of land, and one of the oldest schools in the nation.

120 Acres Donated

John Barnes, a member of Abington Monthly Meeting, donated part of his estate "for and towards erecting a meetinghouse for Friends and toward the maintenance of a school under the direction of Friends."
