2nd Annual Mary Lynn Ellis Poetry Program with Pádraig Ó Tuama

The Susan Salesky Rudin ’57 Distinguished Visiting Professorship Lecture presents

Pádraig Ó Tuama

as part of the Mary Lynn Ellis Poetry Program

Thursday, February 16

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Returning this year, the Mary Lynn Ellis Poetry Program at Abington Friends School has invited the renowned Irish poet Pádraig Ó Tuama to the Jenkintown school’s campus. After speaking with the AFS community and conducting a workshop with our Upper School students during the school day, Padraig will host an evening poetry reading open to the public with an opportunity for book signing.

From his biography: “Poet and theologian, Pádraig Ó Tuama’s work centres around themes of language, power, conflict and religion. Working fluently on the page and with groups of people, Pádraig is a skilled speaker, teacher and group worker. His work has won acclaim in circles of poetry, politics, religion, psychotherapy and conflict analysis.”

Admission is $15 per person. The event is open to the public.

The Mary Lynn Ellis Poetry Program was created to honor a beloved AFS faculty member, Mary Lynn Ellis P’01 P’03, who retired in June 2020. During her time at AFS, Mary Lynn’s love of reading, writing, reciting and analyzing poetry has inspired countless students and colleagues to find their inner voice and discover the power of their written words. This program is fully-funded by anonymous donors and will include on-going collaboration with each selected poet throughout the course of a school year. This year’s visit has been made possible by the generosity of the Susan Rudin Lecture Series.
