Ultimate Frisbee

Spirit of the game is at the core of AFS Ultimate, helping every player grow as both an athlete and teammate.
Ultimate Frisbee at Abington Friends School is a vibrant and inclusive spring sport with a strong tradition of competition and community. The Varsity and Girls/Non-Binary teams have both earned recent berths in the Philadelphia Area Disc Alliance (PADA) State Championship tournament, with the Varsity squad achieving a program-best 9th-place finish in 2025. All teams practice and compete from March through late May, with practices and matches during weekday afternoons and tournaments on select weekends.

Catch the Spirit.
Open to all newcomers, AFS Ultimate welcomes players of every background and experience level. Early training focuses on disc fundamentals—throws, cuts, and defensive positioning—while fostering community, inclusivity, and the “Spirit of the Game.”

Grow Through Play.
Athletes sharpen their skills through weekday practices and a full slate of matches, building stamina, strategy, and teamwork. In these squads, players develop confidence, learn to compete with integrity, and prepare to step into competition.

Reach New Heights.
Varsity athletes compete at the highest level, with many also playing regionally and nationally during the off-season. With strong tournament performances and alumni competing at collegiate programs across the country, AFS Ultimate blends spirited play with a tradition of excellence.

Program History at AFS
Since launching interscholastic play in the mid-2000s, AFS Ultimate has grown into a dynamic program that welcomes all interested Upper School students, regardless of experience.
The program is led by Head Coach Tina Yen, a longtime competitive Ultimate player, whose leadership since 2019 has elevated AFS Ultimate while reinforcing its core values of inclusion, sportsmanship, and joy in play.
Several alumni have continued their Ultimate careers at the collegiate level, including Maddy Singer (University of New Hampshire), Elias Davatzes (Occidental College), and Morgann Thain, who played on Brown University’s national championship runner-up team in 2022.
