Track & Field

Individual events. Team success. Every effort makes a difference.
Track & Field at AFS is a space where students grow as athletes and individuals, supporting one another and taking pride in shared progress. Practices are held five days a week, either on AFS’s campus or at nearby facilities. The season includes dual meets against Friends Schools League teams and larger weekend invitationals, with a highlight being participation in the prestigious Penn Relays Carnival.
Graduates of the program have continued their track and field careers at the collegiate level, attending schools such as Lehigh University, Wake Forest, Rider, Babson, and Oberlin. They carry forward the strong foundation built at AFS, both on the track and beyond.

Start with Strides.
Middle School Track & Field introduces the full range of events—sprints, distance, relays, jumps, and throws—while building coordination, confidence, and teamwork. With weekly practices and local meets, athletes explore their strengths and lay the foundation for Upper School competition.

Grow in Motion.
Upper School athletes refine their technique through daily training and competitive dual meets, learning to balance individual goals with team scoring. With coaching across all 18 events, runners, jumpers, and throwers grow in both skill and confidence, preparing for bigger stages.

Compete with Heart.
Varsity athletes represent AFS at the highest level, training with intensity and competing in Friends Schools League meets, invitationals, and prestigious events like the Penn Relays. With multiple league and state champions in recent years, the program blends personal bests with team achievement, embodying resilience and shared pride.

Program History at AFS
Abington Friends School joined the Friends Schools League for Track & Field in 2004, becoming the first member school to compete without a track on their campus. Despite this, AFS Track & Field has become a consistent force in the League, proving that determination, teamwork, and resourcefulness matter more than facilities.
Since 2023, AFS athletes have earned 30 top-three finishes across 19 events at the Friends Schools League Championship Meet, including 12 individual gold medals.
The program has also celebrated multiple PAISAA State Champions, including Rihanna Williams (Triple Jump, 2025), Jade Sanders (400m, 2023), Nicole Kurtz (400m, 2013), and Alec Peabody (200m and Long Jump, 2012). In total, AFS athletes have earned 22 additional top-three finishes at the state level.
