Indoor Track

AFS Indoor Track turns winter into a season of growth, where athletes build strength, speed, and community.
Indoor Track at AFS offers student-athletes a dynamic winter-season opportunity to train, compete, and build strength, speed, and endurance in a supportive team environment. Open to all students in grades 9–12, with opportunities for qualified 8th graders to join as well, the team practices after school on weekdays and competes primarily on weekends, with occasional weekday evening meets.
The team is currently led by Head Coach Masai Pines-Elliott, a former standout at Arcadia University, where he competed for four years and set three school records. His leadership helps guide athletes of all experience levels toward achieving their personal and team goals.

Find Your Rhythm.
Indoor Track welcomes athletes of all backgrounds—whether discovering the sport for the first time or training between seasons. Practices focus on building speed, endurance, and strength in creative training spaces, laying the groundwork for competitive success.

Build Your Speed.
Athletes gain meet experience at collegiate and regional venues, refining their form in sprints, distance, jumps, and relays. With personalized coaching and structured training, runners and field athletes develop consistency, confidence, and resilience in a team-centered environment.

Race for Records.
Varsity athletes represent AFS at high-profile meets from Ursinus to The Armory, setting school records and earning state medals. Competing with heart and pride, the team balances individual achievement with a culture of support, preparing athletes for outdoor track and beyond.

Program History at AFS
Established in 2005.
Introduced in the 2005–06 school year, the program serves both dedicated year-round runners and athletes from other sports seeking to stay in peak condition between seasons.
While AFS, like most schools in the Philadelphia area, does not have an indoor track facility on campus, the team trains using a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, including the Richard Berman Fitness Center and outdoor areas when weather allows.
Competitions take place at collegiate venues such as Ursinus College, Lehigh University, and the University of Pennsylvania, with select meets held at renowned regional sites like The Armory in New York City and Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
AFS Indoor Track has seen remarkable growth and success in recent years. Since 2023, the team has set new school records in 14 different events and produced 19 Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) state championship medalists (1st, 2nd, 3rd places) and six PAISAA state champions—a testament to the athletes’ hard work and the strength of the program.
