Girls Lacrosse

AFS Lacrosse is a tradition of confidence, camaraderie, and shared achievement.
Girls Lacrosse at Abington Friends School offers students an opportunity to develop as athletes, teammates, and leaders, regardless of prior experience. Open to students in grades 5–12, our program focuses on both individual skill-building and team play, creating space for newcomers to grow into key contributors over their AFS careers.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Jessica Breuning since 2019, a former standout lacrosse and soccer player at Cabrini College, the team thrives with a developmentally focused, player-centered approach that emphasizes growth on and off the field.

Protect the Net.
Middle School lacrosse introduces stick skills, footwork, and team concepts in a supportive, no-cut environment. With practices and 8–10 games each spring, athletes gain confidence and prepare to contribute at the Upper School level.

Clear the Field.
Developing and JV players refine fundamentals, learn offensive and defensive systems, and build fitness through daily practices and competitive games. This stage emphasizes resilience, teamwork, and steady growth as athletes prepare for Varsity play.

Win the Draw.
Varsity lacrosse balances individual skill-building with team strategy, competing in a 15-game Friends Schools League and non-league schedule. With recent Quaker Cup and playoff success, Varsity athletes embody the spirit of growth, commitment, and excellence that defines AFS Lacrosse.

Program History at AFS
AFS is a charter member of the Friends Schools League (FSL), beginning lacrosse competition in the League’s inaugural 1981–82 season.
Recent years have brought historic success to the program, including an FSL Quaker Cup championship in 2021 and the team’s first-ever appearance in the FSL postseason playoffs in 2022.
Many AFS graduates have continued their lacrosse careers at the collegiate level, including at Howard University, the College of Wooster, Central Connecticut State, and the University of Rochester.
