Boys Soccer

Boys Soccer at Abington Friends School offers a comprehensive, skill-based progression for student-athletes from grades 5 through 12.

At every level, AFS Boys Soccer is about more than just the game. Each fall, the Varsity roster includes 15–18 student-athletes in grades 9–12, with a mix of returning players and newcomers. The season begins with preseason training in late August and runs through early November, often concluding with Friends Schools League and State postseason tournaments. It’s a place where student-athletes learn perseverance, collaboration, and leadership, skills that serve them well on and off the field.

Kick Things Off.

Middle School Boys Soccer welcomes players of all skill levels. Students get to know one another on and off the pitch, becoming familiar with technical fundamentals while gaining confidence in a supportive team environment.

Find Your Team.

Junior Varsity serves as a bridge to Varsity, providing a no-cut space where Upper School students and select eighth graders can sharpen skills, gain experience, and grow together as teammates.

Play with Pride.

Varsity athletes compete at the highest level in the Friends Schools League, continuing a tradition of playoff appearances, championships, and alumni who go on to play in college.

Program History at AFS

Established in 1981

The Boys Soccer program has a rich tradition at AFS, dating back to intramural play in the early 20th century before the reintroduction of coeducation in the mid-1970’s enabled AFS to join as a charter member of the Friends Schools League in Varsity Boys Soccer in 1981. AFS recorded a 0-0 tie with Moorestown Friends in the Roos first-ever FSL match that year.

Since then, AFS has made 11 FSL playoff appearances and captured league championships in 1984 and 2002.

Since 2010, AFS players have earned 39 All-FSL honors, and graduates have continued their soccer careers at colleges such as Swarthmore, Ursinus, Drexel, and St. Joseph’s.
