Partnering with Parents in Middle School

Partnering with Families through the Middle School Years

Rooted in Relationship: Education is a collaborative journey.

At Abington Friends School, we see education as a shared journey—especially in Middle School, when students are growing in new and dynamic ways. We believe students thrive when families and educators partner closely to support the whole child—not just academically, but socially, emotionally, and personally.

Strong Support Systems

In Middle School, relationships matter more than ever. These are the years when students begin to seek more independence while still needing strong support systems. When families and teachers work together, students experience consistency, care and encouragement, helping them navigate challenges and celebrate growth.

Family

Family partnerships continue beyond the classroom, too. Whether through educational workshops, community events, service initiatives, or performances, we create regular opportunities for families to connect, engage, and feel part of the life of the school.

Advisory

Advisory plays a key role in this partnership. Each student is part of a small advisory group led by a dedicated teacher who builds close relationships with both students and their families. Advisors help guide students through the academic and social-emotional transitions of adolescence, creating a bridge between school and home that’s rooted in trust and open communication.

This spirit of partnership is central to who we are—and one of the many reasons AFS feels like home during these important years.

These relationships don’t just support individual students—they strengthen our entire community. Families bring valuable insight, experience, and presence to Middle School life. Together, we create an environment where students feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow into their fullest selves.
