Students Display Art at the Woodmere, Win Festival Prizes

The Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill is exhibiting art created by students in the Upper School’s Drawing Intensive class who were inspired by the concept, “Peace and Love.” Herman Davis P’14, is the founder of the PeaceLove Foundation, which promotes nonviolence in schools and using art as a healing tool.

AFS has two collaborative pieces on display. The student artists are Helen Li ’18, Charlotte Li ’18, Tamsin Longenberger ’19, Lena Behrendt-Harrer ’19, Khadijah Hickson ’16, Chloe Bartlett ’18, Selina Zhou ’19, Emily Huang ’18, Margaret Silbaugh ’19 and Aviva Gordon ’19.

The exhibit runs until October 23.

In other news, AFS student artwork captured three prizes in a scholastic exhibit and competition that was held at the Jenkintown Arts Festival on September18, according to Upper School Art Teacher Amy Diaz Newman.

Junior Charlotte Li won a third-place award for her drawing of a skull that was created in Conte, a waxy chalk. Leila El-Dada, who also was a member of the Class of 2018 but moved overseas this year, was awarded a second-place prize for her oil still life of pears. Freshman Tessa Sandre won a third-place award for Middle School for a piece she made in 8th grade with her private teacher, Elena Cipolla.
