AFS Girls’ Basketball Team’s Winningest Season Ends

The AFS varsity girls’ basketball team’s remarkable season ended Friday afternoon when the Roos fell to the Shipley School, 45-33, in the semifinal game of the state title tourney for independent schools held at Malvern Prep.

Shipley went on to defeat Germantown Academy on Saturday, 52-47, to claim the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association’s state championship.

Overall, the Roos, 24-4, racked up the most wins ever of any AFS team in a single season, and won the Friends Schools League title for the first time since the 2006-2007 season. Along the way, the Roos beat Shipley School twice, including in the FSL title game.

In the PAISAA semifinals, Jade Young and Paige Mott led AFS with 11 points apiece. Shipley’s Yndiah Bobo netted 17 points.
