AFS Senior Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

Senior Morgann Thain on September 13 was named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, an honor bestowed on less than 1 percent of the 1.6 million high school juniors who took a PSAT qualifying test.

Morgann was among the highest-scoring entrants from Pennsylvania, and one of about 16,000 students selected from high schools nationwide. Most of the Semifinalists will advance to the Finalist level, and from that group, 7,500 winners of National Merit Scholarships will be selected. Those awards, based on a student’s skills, accomplishments and potential for success in college, will be made over four months, beginning in April.

J.R. Neiswender, AFS Director of College Guidance, announced the news in the Upper School’s morning assembly, prompting enthusiastic applause for Morgann from fellow students.

Congratulations, Morgann, and good luck!
