AFS cross-country is racing forward in leaps and bounds as more than 40 runners in Middle and Upper School grades are participating in the program this fall. The number is believed to set an AFS record for combined roster size for the sport.

On September 17, AFS’s varsity cross-country teams traveled to Newtown, Bucks County, for the 64th annual George School Invitational. In the boys’ 5,000-meter race, Noah Rosenfeld ’17 (19:11), Chase Balick ’19 (19:37) and Samo Shally ’19 (19:50) broke the 20-minute mark, helping the ’Runnin’ ’Roos to a 14th place finish out of 18 teams.

Madison Tillmann ’18 (23:47), Mia Panzak ’17 (25:32), Cara Tressider ’18 (26:17) and Anne Shipley ’20 (28:26) raced for girls’ team at George School. In all, 16 runners represented AFS at the meet.

On September 20, AFS hosted a tri-meet with Jenkintown High School and Moorestown Friends School. Prior to the start of the race, Athletics Director Jeff Bond recognized the 19 seniors from the three schools at AFS’s Senior Day celebration. Noah Rosenfeld, Louis Platt, Corbin Outten, Mia Panzak, Noah Shufutinski and Henry Pitcairn received AFS senior letters and cross-country pins in recognition of their participation in the program.
At the meet, the varsity girls’ cross-country team topped Moorestown Friends and lost to Jenkintown, while the varsity boys’ team fell to both opponents.

This weekend, both the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams travel to Bethesda, Md., for the Landon School Invitational.
