How does a student get started?
Students have several resources to prepare their SIP Projects: •They can review the listings of past projects to see the sites and work that seniors have chosen in previous years. •They can browse the SIP Database to see what sites are available through past mentors, alumni, and parents. •They can talk with people they know. Parents can help by suggesting ideas about work, contacting friends and relatives in this area and throughout the country, and helping with travel arrangements. Teachers and senior advisers can help sort through a student's interests to determine a good project. In adviser group, students will have the opportunity to brainstorm with other students possible work and sites that would make good projects. •They can meet with the SIP Coordinator, Kristine Long, to find out more about past Senior Independent Projects and to learn ways to combine many interests into a workable project. Students can set up a conference with her or drop in at a SIP Meeting at lunch. Check the Student Message Board outside the U.S. office for days and times.
