The foremost goal of the Abington Friends Early Childhood program is to value and to preserve childhood. Our program builds on the excitement and curiosity that our children bring to their first school experience. Designed to strengthen a young child's developing independence and social skills, the Early Childhood program combines a focus on the individual with an ever widening sense of community. An emphasis on community, rooted in Quaker beliefs, permeate the Early Childhood curriculum.
-
Great value is placed upon building strong communities within each classroom.
-
Children learn to work and play together.
-
Peaceful conflict resolution skills are modeled by skilled teachers.
A critical component of our program is our focus on providing children with an opportunity to explore and learn about the diversity in our own community and in our larger society. Our goal is to help children value the differences and, more importantly, the similarities among all people. We believe that if we are successful in this mission in our work with young children, we are doing our part to build a better society.
