To bring our dining service in line with the culture and core values of AFS, last year we began an exciting partnership with CulinArt Dining Services to create a community lunch that is simple, healthy and kid-friendly. Families buy blocks of meals at reasonable cost, allowing us to do away with cash registers and the lines that go with them.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, students have opportunities to participate in growing a variety of vegetables and herbs in a garden on campus, to learn about composting and to join in our recycling efforts. CulinArt also works with food suppliers, local farmers and community based organizations to increase the availability of locally sourced food. To reduce our waste, we no longer offer bottled water. Instead, students help themselves from vessels filled with fresh iced tea, water and juices.
Students on the meal plan have a wide choice of healthy foods to choose from every day, including:
Hearty home style soup selections such as chicken and rice, Italian wedding, tortilla and beef and barley, as well as chilis and chowders.
A hot entrée accompanied by a starch and vegetable selections. Popular comfort foods incorporating local products, such as old fashioned meatloaf served with country carrots and smashed potatoes or roasted pork loan with zucchini squash and risotto.
Composed salads such as Caesar salad, Mediterranean vegetable salad, soba noodle and vegetable salad and crunchy carrot, raisin and scallion salad.
A signature salad bar with an abundance of fresh vegetables, fruits and greens as well as antipasto style items such as fresh marinated mozzarella, roasted eggplant, diced chicken and more.
Fresh oven baked gourmet and traditional pizza as well as a variety of Stromboli, calzones, garlic knots and fresh pasta selections.
Two pastas daily, one of which is whole grain and two sauces daily, one of which is marinara.
A self serve deli bar that offers a selection of quality Boar’s Head cold cuts, vegetables and condiments on a choice of bread, roll or tortilla wrap, including whole wheat and multi-grain varieties.
Fresh and healthy menu items that are low in total fat, saturated fat, sodium, sugar and cholesterol and help students make positive food choices.
Full support for vegetarian and vegan choices with labels clearly identifying these foods throughout the cafeteria.
A variety of dessert options such as sugar free puddings, poached fresh fruit, healthy raisin honey oat bar cookies and sliced yogurt loaf cakes. A rotating schedule of specialty items such as individual cheesecakes and fruit tarts, warm bread pudding and more will also be offered.
